Waiting

Will I see them again?
Will we have meals together?
Do they know my heart?
Do they feel my thoughts?

The parents have been away.
A world away to date.
They live their lives apart.
From the daughters they had.

Will they look after themselves?
Do we have a hope?
How many days, far away.
A year has almost passed.

Will we see them again?
Will I eat delicious food?
Will I laugh at jokes?
Will we share a walk?

We talk over the phone.
With no respect for timezone.
The phone goes silent often.
The grandchildren fill the void.

This poem was inspired at a virtual writing workshop I attended held by Living Hyphen.
