A Change in the Air...
It's the end of September and I've gone back to school.
Last spring, while in my 40s, I enrolled in a B.Ed. program at Ontario Tech University, specializing in primary school education.
It's never too late to learn, start new, or to change tracks.
My Why: I want to continue writing my books full-time but recognize bills need to be paid and I owe it to my supporting spouse to return to work. A return to product management equates to long hours staring at a screen. My main goal here is to continue on my writing journey. Everything that makes me a great product person will also help me become a great teacher.
This venture also helps me explore boundary setting (of which I am extremely poor). I don't need to climb a mountain as a teacher, as I did as a product leader. The mountain I'm climbing is in finishing the next book (and the next, and the next, and the one after that). I'll know I was successful once I get there.
A Lion's Head will finally be in print on the 7th of October!
A Lion's Head will be available internationally on Print-On-Demand as a softcover and hardcover. I recommend buying from Amazon as the price may be a little cheaper, the base printing costs being less.

Do not take your marketing advice from Chat GPT.
I am so sorry.
I solemnly swear to never again release my books in a staggered format. The number of people who have come up to me with the intention of buying my book but having to wait until October 7th's print release has been a gut punch, for me.
This is yet another piece of evidence that AI isn't the end all solution to all things. For those of you unaware, my policy is to use it as a tool but sparingly given how much it's already overused.
I have no reviews for A Lion's Head.
That's a lie. I have a partial review, 5 stars from Kiran C. Another lesson learned, 14 year olds won't use words if they don't have to. If you have been reading a copy of my book, please leave a review.
If price is a barrier, do reach out to me at hello(at)dmdealwis(dot)com and I'll send you a link to download a free copy.
Events this last month...
Tune into my instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/dmdealwis/) if you'd like realtime updates on upcoming author events, and photos. This last month was busy with my first local Author Book Signing at Indigo Newmarket (Ontario, Canada), a Mother/Son Artist Team Book Reading Event at the local Culture Days at the Richmond Hill Public Library, and a Local Author Showcase hosted by the Vaughan Public Libraries. I have no further events coming up before the new year.
Truth and Reconciliation Day in Canada
Today is a day for truth and reconciliation in Canada. I would like to point out the acknowledgements page on my website where I recognize not only the countless individuals who have contributed to my journey but also the lands upon which my stories were composed. I would also like to share with you a video that was incidentally created by a talented documentarian whose shoes my dog, Talia, ate.
I think there needs to be more context for how native peoples live within Canada as well as the impact of colonialism has had on generations.
I still can't walk into the British Museum without feeling like my culture was assaulted by the theft of countless historical relics relegated to the cold walls of the museum having lost their context and meaning within my cultural history.
I wish everyone a wonderful transition to the autumn.
Best,
Diliny M. De Alwis
